Series That Converge on Sets of Null Density

It is shown that a series of positive terms that converges on all sets of null density should be convergent. Using this result we construct examples of complete topological vector spaces that are proper subspaces of a Banach space, but whose dual spaces coincide with the dual space of the Banach space.

Simple method to make asymptotic series of Feynman diagrams converge.

We show that, for two nontrivial lambda phi(4) problems (the anharmonic oscillator and the Landau-Ginzburg hierarchical model), improved perturbative series can be obtained by cutting off the large field contributions. The modified series converge to values exponentially close to the exact ones. For lambda larger than some critical value, the method outperforms Padé's approximants and Borel sum...

Large Field Cutoffs Make Perturbative Series Converge

For λφ problems, convergent perturbative series can be obtained by cutting off the large field configurations. The modified series converge to values exponentially close to the exact ones. For λ larger than some critical value, the method outperforms Padé approximants and Borel summations. We discuss some aspects of the semi-classical methods used to calculate the modified Feynman rules and est...

Metabolic Adaptation Processes That Converge to Optimal Biomass Flux Distributions

In simple organisms like E.coli, the metabolic response to an external perturbation passes through a transient phase in which the activation of a number of latent pathways can guarantee survival at the expenses of growth. Growth is gradually recovered as the organism adapts to the new condition. This adaptation can be modeled as a process of repeated metabolic adjustments obtained through the r...

Algorithms that satisfy a stopping criterion, probably

Iterative numerical algorithms are typically equipped with a stopping criterion, where the iteration process is terminated when some error or misfit measure is deemed to be below a given tolerance. This is a useful setting for comparing algorithm performance, among other purposes. However, in practical applications a precise value for such a tolerance is rarely known; rather, only some possibly...
